Let’s Build the Support Our Community Needs Together
When someone is living with mild cognitive impairment or mild to moderate dementia, finding the right opportunities for connection can be surprisingly difficult. Many traditional activities are not designed with cognitive changes in mind. Other programs may not feel like the right fit for individuals who are still active, social, and eager to participate.
Care partners and family members also need places where they can connect, learn, and feel supported, not only during moments of crisis, but throughout the entire caregiving journey.
That is why Insightful Aging will be hosting a community gathering this fall.
This informal event will bring together individuals experiencing cognitive changes, their loved ones, caregivers, and community members to talk about what is currently missing and what we would like to create together.
What kinds of activities would feel meaningful, enjoyable, and accessible? What would help individuals remain socially connected and engaged? What kinds of education, support, and opportunities would make life a little easier for care partners?
Ideas might include:
A dementia-friendly book club
Brain health and cognitive engagement classes
Adapted exercise or wellness programs
Social gatherings for individuals and their care partners
Practical caregiver education
Ongoing caregiver support groups
Activities designed specifically for people living with mild cognitive impairment or mild to moderate dementia
These are only starting points. The purpose of this gathering is to listen to the people who understand these needs best: individuals living with cognitive changes and the people who support them.
No formal program has been decided yet. I want the community’s experiences and ideas to help guide what comes next.
The date, time, and location are still being determined. Stay tuned for more information, and start thinking about what you and your family would most like to see available in our community.
I hope you’ll join us, share your perspective, and help shape something meaningful.
Warmly,
Samantha
